As a precursor to the northeast monsoon, which is likely to commence within a week, the southern districts experienced widespread intermittent drizzle on Monday night and Tuesday.
After isolated overnight drizzle and overcast sky on Tuesday morning, several parts of Thoothukudi experienced showers in the forenoon. Places like Srivaikundam, Thoothukudi, Masarpatti, Mappillaiyurani and Vadavallanadu recorded more than 10 mm rainfall.
The Department of Forest has banned the devotees from visiting Nambi Temple in the Western Ghats beyond Thirukkurungudi in Tirunelveli district as the streams flowing in this region are swelling following incessant drizzle deep inside the hill. Similarly, bathing has been banned at Thalaiyanai at Kalakkad.
In Tenkasi district, the widespread rains triggered flood in the Five Falls and the Main Falls in Courtallam. Consequently, the visitors were stopped from taking bath in the waterfalls considering their safety.
Surandai, Kadayanallur, Puliyangudi, Vasudevanallur, Sankarankovil and Sivagiri experienced strong drizzle on Monday night, which continued on Tuesday also.
Several parts of Kanniyakumari district, including Suchindram, Edalakudy, Thovalai, Therisanankoppu, Thellanthi, Keeriparai, and Vazhayathuvayal experienced good rainfall for more than 45 minutes on Tuesday after scorching heat for over a week.
